Tax Time

To my good friends in the blogosphere, I am in the process of doing my taxes. So far I have only just been able to gather the assorted documents necessary. I have also loaded up my spiffy new Tax Cut program. Since I am VERY detail oriented (cross the T) I will have the bottle of Excedrin Extra strength formula container standing by. There will be at least two or three late nights (till 3AM) of agonizing over deductions, earnings, depreciation, capital gains, dividends and the list goes on. I don't know how but somehow it all boils down to either a little smiley face or frowny face (the bottom line).
Here is a suggestion to the IRS for next year's 1040EEZZEE FORM. It's got only two lines so it really is easy:

1. HOW MUCH DID YOU EARN? ____________
2. SEND IT IN.

Well maybe not that easy.
Anyway, bear with me, I'll post again soon... PROMISE.

Do all Americans have to do this? It is just done automatically here... Your way sounds hard!

This is why LONG LONG ago, I went with hiring an accountant. While it is not as cheap as doing it myself, I get the benefit of knowing it was done right, I don't fret over it, and if I am audited, he/she will be right beside me.

That is worth the pennies. To me.

nabeel,
Make sure the tax lady does a good job. Think refund!

san nakji,
Yes, every year before April 15, we have to reconcile all our earnings for the previous year and either pay the difference or ask for some money back. We do this for the individual state we live in and also the federal government.
There is a saying that goes like this: "The only sure things in life are death and taxes."

dagoods,
A tax accountant is worth his weight in gold right about now. I have this peculiar "control" issue when it comes to my finances, so I have assigned this task to the only person that will devote 100% effort to it, myself. I can never shake the feeling, however, when I'm done and the envelopes are hitting the mail box that Ive left something undone. Yikes, got to work on that.

Uggg, I hate doing taxes. My accountant is working out whether it will be more beneficial to file single or married this year. I'm pretty sure the married bit is gonna be better. I have a choice this year. BUT...taxes suck. I hope it all goes well for you.

They say here in America that over 50% of our income goes to pay some sort of tax. Local, state, federal, sales, etc. It's ridiculous! Damn national deficit.

oricon ailin,
Thanks for your good wishes. This coming weekend is going to be the weekend of AGONY. I've asked my wife, Linda, to put together some data so I can claim a home office deduction (she works at home - via VPN). The response was lukewarm at best. Anyone who's hung wallpaper with your spouse knows, it never ends well.
Wish me luck, I'll need it.

Roman,
You may have misslabled your last two postings, maybe it should have been "Dubia-us ports" and "Terror taxes" (wink, wink)

Skip..

skip,
In looking back with what has transpired in the recent House vote 62 to 2 against granting rights to the ports to the UAE, Dubya -US ports would have been a lot better.
Good to hear from ya.

A man on vacation was strolling along outside his hotel in Acapulco, enjoying the sunny Mexican weather. Suddenly, he was attracted by the screams of a woman kneeling in front of a child.

The man knew enough Spanish to determine that the child had swallowed a coin. Seizing the child by the heels, the man held him up, gave him a few rough shakes, and an American quarter dropped to the sidewalk.

“Oh, thank you sir!” cried the woman. “You seemed to know just how to get it out of him. Are you a doctor?”

“No, ma’am,” replied the man (pocketing the quarter) “I’m with the IRS.”

When Jesse Ventura was governor here, he'd mail an extra check to taxpayers. I don't see either the check or Jesse, in the future.

Actually, I would LOVE to have that system. Especially if had a flat tax rate. Probably get a lot more money from those damn people and their 1337 haxx0r accountants.
